How SipStory works
Australia is sitting on a record glut of wine — hundreds of millions of litres more than the market can drink. That's painful for the people who make it, and a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the people who drink it. SipStory exists to connect the two.
We're an independent Australian wine-deal comparison site. We don't sell wine and we don't hold stock. We scan what retailers and wineries are already discounting, rank each deal by how good a buy it genuinely is, and send you straight to the shop to purchase. Think of us as a value-obsessed friend who reads every clearance list so you don't have to.
The four steps
An automated collector reads the public product data published by Australian wine retailers and wineries — the same listings you'd see on their sites — and refreshes the catalogue daily. New stores are added all the time. See where the deals come from.
A resolver recognises when the same wine is sold by more than one retailer — by producer, varietal, vintage and size — so when two shops stock it, we can tell you which is cheaper and by how much.
Every deal gets a Sip Score out of 100 that weighs how deep the discount is, how good the wine is, the true price per bottle, and whether the price is genuinely low for that wine. The cheapest bottle isn't always the smartest buy — the Sip Score finds the smartest one.
Hit “View deal” and you go straight to the retailer's own page to complete your purchase at their listed price. We never add a markup and we never handle your payment.
Buy direct from the winery
Wherever we can, we surface deals sold straight from the producer's own cellar door, marked with a “Winery direct” badge. When you buy direct, more of your money goes back to the people who actually grew the grapes — which, in a glut, is exactly where it's needed. These deals are woven right through the feed, not walled off.
How the price-per-bottle works
Wine is sold in singles, six-packs and dozens, and a “$161 carton” can hide a great $13-a-bottle price. SipStory reads the pack size of each listing and always shows you the true price per bottle, so you can compare a single against a dozen honestly.
How we make money
We're upfront about it. SipStory is free to use. In time, some “View deal” links may earn us a small affiliate commission when you buy — paid by the retailer, never added to your price. We may also add featured placements and a premium alerts tier. None of this ever changes how we rank deals. The Sip Score is based only on value, and ranking is not for sale — our independence is the whole product.
